THAT bike!

We all seem to have seen a bike here or there that really REALLY blew us away.
I have a few, the FLAT CAT from Iron Horse eighteen or so years ago. Jeff Wright's Hammer of God Shovel. Gordons evo long bike from 1999ish. Droopys Knucklehead. The GORR MC flathead long bike.
THats the bike on my mind right now, the GORR MC flathead
Corner sent me pix of a super simple black btsv with a 20" or so over stock springer, with "Texas" bars and some red trim. it fucking BLEW me away! The other night I decided that I needed to find the pix of it and I spent 3 hours digging through every hard drive I have that is full of pictures. NO LUCK!
FUCK
So I emailed Corner and i heard back from him this morning, with all the pix of it! BUT my god damned mail server is undergoing maintenance and I can't download it until tomorrow morning!!! HOLD TIGHT.

What bike in your past blew your mind?

  1. I'm guessing around 6 or more years ago maybe,I came across COC,before I knew what the hell a blog was.Jeff had built the shovel that Brad Pitt owned,my buddy was wanting to buy it.The HoG is my all time favorite,it has tainted me from the whole chopper thing.I will go as far is to say that everything he touches is gold, his own style, built tough, with the coolness of preformance.

  2. It was that crazy flat-green FXR with the carb sticking out of the top of the gas tank that was in the old Iron Horse from around 1996. Lots of people are into that bike.

  3. The S&S bike that Jeff Wright built. So much cool shit. I can stare at it for hours.

  4. Don't know Droopy or anything, but after reading Irish Richs post on him blowing his bike up and coming home to a leveled house, that makes me a believer in him and his knuckle.. So I will say that one blew my mind

  9. when my old man owned his shop, these guys Tate (RIP)and Dano built a couple of killer stroked panheads in about '87 that I could never shake the sound, smell or looks of:
    Here's one
    And here's the other one

Then there was the Shortster...the Righteous Ruler pan..Meathead's pan..

  16. Joe Hurst's White Bear shovelhead, full of Dick Allen goodness. saw it at the LA sports arena in '71 or'72? Roths' Oink. and Sonny Bargers yellow panhead circa '60 are the first ones to come to mind.

  17. Chica's "Von Dutch" from a few years back. I know it's a high dollar bike, but it's artful and mechanical at the same time. Also anything my Grandpa built - MIG welder and square stock in rural South Dakota, but he still got it done.

  18. There was a Harris Magnum 1 framed GSXR 1100 in an early issue of Streetfighters Magazine... must have been around late 1994 when i saw it.

    Blew. My. Mind.

Half the bikes in that mag did. simple, stripped down, all business hooligan machines.

  23. IH #113, 1993. Steg's shovel in Axe Man's Chop article changed the way that I look at motorcycles. Hard tail, high pipes, good brakes, wide glide, friscoed tank and drag bars. Visually tight and built to go. It looks fast standing still. That bike will stand the test of time.

  28. Current: The Super Freak has prompted me to get going for Dave's MotorShop frames, and Irish Rich's "White Heat" is a modern classic. Past: Rooster's Shovel, Armond's Knuck-Shovel w/Speed-E-Shift

  29. My friend Ronnie's
Honda Z50, the first motorcycle I ever rode. Ronnie's dad was in a club. His house didn't have a front door, it had a shower curtain, but no one ever came in uninvited.

First time I went over to Ronnie's after school, we were about 8. There was a note tacked on his bedroom door, "Ronnie, I smoked the last of your stuff, pay you back later, Love Pop."

That and anything touched by Vince.

  30. Since I always like clean and well finished, I would have to say Cole Fosters blue bike. I saw it roll off the Custom Chrome truck while we were unloading the PM truck at the Indy dealer show back in 2002, I think. I don't even know how many times went back to look at that thing over that weekend. Nothing about it said, hey-look-at-me, but once you saw it, you were there for a while looking at it. The devil was in the detail, so-to-speak. It's still one of the very few custom bikes I would pay for and keep.

  34. Benny Hardy's Captain America.

Transcendent. Timeless. To use an overworked term - a masterpiece.

How, at that time, a relatively unknown black American man was able to encompass all that was America and all that was un-American into a single motorcycle - which was essentially a movie prop - is beyond my understanding.

  48. When I was 13 or so(maybe1984/85)I thought a hondaVF1000r was the coolest motorcycle I'd ever see until I saw one of the "big kids" named Guy taking his first ride on his self built scoot. It had a big fat-assed candied purple split tank and front fender but the rear fender was just too short and the most aweful wasp yellow and black. It had buckhorn looking handlebars and sat too low to the ground.Plus he was a fat giant and made it look like a minibike. I asked him what kind of bike it was and he yelled out"It's mine!" I found out about an hour later he wanted to ride so he built a bike from everything he could get his hands on. It may have been part harley/honda/triumph/yamaha/indian and probably wasn't even close to legal but it was all Guy. That's when I decided I was gonna ride too. I wonder where he is these days.

  56. I'd have to say Danny Takahashi's Knuck is my all time favorite.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Steve "Knuckle Steve" Clarks Knuck that was posted back in the Dave Snow era Iron Horse. The bike was simple in it's nickel plated glory Engine+Frame+Wheels+forks+tank=Done! It's east coast style at it's best and the benchmark for every bike I've built since. I got to hang with Indian Larry on 116th St back in the summer of 95 and even he was quoted by saying "That bike is fucking sick!"
